About

Communicating climate and sustainability since 2009

Rachel England sustainability and ESG specialist

I had newly graduated from Cardiff University with a PgDip Journalism when the 2008 financial crisis hit. Jobs were few and far between, but I was fortunate enough to find a role with a small publisher focusing on materials and waste management. I confess, at the time it was not my dream job. But from this humble beginning — which saw me wading through landfill and debating the merits of food waste bins — I quickly developed a passion for sustainability. For doing right by people and planet.

The climate conversation has escalated rapidly since and I’ve seen, first-hand, the evolution of sustainability ambition. Just over a decade ago I was writing B2B articles on the value of energy-saving lightbulbs and powering down PCs at the end of the day. Now, the low-hanging fruit has been picked and we’re facing into a complicated sprawl of Scope 3 emissions, voluntary carbon markets, a renewed focus on nature, tightening regulations and an unprecedented demand for transparency. And at the heart of these many interconnected challenges, a need for just and equitable outcomes for all.

My career has developed in tandem with the global sustainability agenda and today I thrive on telling compelling climate stories that drive change, whether that’s through ESG reporting, public speaking or lifestyle journalism. My first book, Everyday Activism, was published by Harper Collins in 2021. In 2024 I graduated from Glasgow Caledonion University with an MSc Climate Justice, focusing on international development, and environmental, social and political science. I am also a member of the IEMA.
